How Is Portland Cement Made?

  1. There is a simple process and need some material to make Portland cement. The materials that are needed for this are limestone, silicon, fly ash, iron, and aluminium, etc.
  2. At first raw materials of calcium carbonate, silicon, iron oxide are crushed and mixed, then the crushed raw materials are placed into a rotating cement kiln.

  6. On the other end of the kiln, the raw materials are placed. After the placing of raw materials when the kiln slowly rotted the raw materials goes downward and in contact with a high flame, the material converts into tricalcium silicate,Β  dicalcium silicate, and tricalcium aluminate.
  7. All materials that have come out from the kiln are solid. This solid form is known as clinker.
  8. At last, all clinker is finely ground to produce Portland cement.
  9. Some gypsum should be added to control the rate of hardening of the cement.

  5. Mix Portland cement with sulfoaliminates to make expansive cements. Sulfoaluminates tend to expand when they dry which counteracts the tendency of Portland cement to contract. This allows large slabs to be poured at once without using contraction joints.
