Measure and mark the location of your posts. The size of your shade structure will depend on the size of your backyard and your personal preferences. For a small to medium-sized backyard, I recommend using four 4×4 posts with a distance of 8-10 feet between each post.
Dig holes for your posts. The holes should be at least 18 inches deep to ensure stability. Use a level to make sure the holes are even.
Place the wooden posts into the holes and fill them with concrete. Use a level to make sure the posts are straight and let the concrete dry overnight.
Once the posts are secured in place, it’s time to add the beams. Measure and cut four 2×4 beams to the desired length for your shade structure. For a 10×10 structure, I recommend using 8-foot beams.
Attach the beams to the posts using metal T-brackets and screws. Make sure the brackets are evenly spaced on each post for stability.
Next, it’s time to add the shade cloth or outdoor fabric. Measure and cut the fabric to fit the top of your structure. Leave some extra fabric on each side to create overhang for better coverage. You can also add grommets to the fabric for a more professional look.
Secure the fabric to the beams using zip ties. Pull the fabric tight and tie it securely to each beam. You can also add stakes to the corners for extra stability.
